Vampires and bougie women

I was in Asheville, North Carolina last weekend and boy is it pretty. There are many things I love about Texas - and many I do not - but when you leave it you cannot help but admit that it's pretty damn ugly compared to other places. Sure, bluebonnet fields are nice and Big Bend is impressive. But look at this place:

The Blue Ridge mountains are somewhat obscured thanks to a beautiful storm rolling in but you get the gist. It's just one more reason I'm probably going to leave this state in the next couple years. Mama needs a view.

📺 The Five-Star Weekend (Peacock)
I know, this is my second frothy suggestion in as many weeks but don't worry. The next one's real dark. I didn't initially plan to watch this until Tina recommended it and she was right. (Don't tell her I said that.) It's better than you think it's going to be. And Jennifer Garner is a pretty great actor. Who knew? There are a few cringe-worthy moments and I'd like a word with the monster that put together the soundtrack, but overall a good, soapy watch with some real moments.

🎥 The Addiction (Kanopy, rental)
Vampires! But vampires as imagined by Abel Ferrara, a director who never met a dark corner he didn't want to plumb as provocatively as possible. It stars Lili Taylor, who I will watch in anything, and boy does she chew the walls. It's overwrought and pretentious and I laughed out loud several times but there's also an appearance by Christopher Walken. You know you wanna go there.

🎥 A Thousand and One (Peacock)
One of those movies that you wonder why it didn't hit bigger. (I think my grammar is off there but let's move on.) Teyana Taylor is a damn powerhouse and the actors who play her son match her toe for toe. It also has a hell of a twist that I didn't see coming. Underrated gem.

Okay that's enough damage for one weekend. Fight the power.
