Tis the season

I went to the movies yesterday (The End of Oak Street. It was fine and fun.) and I have to use the mall as my theater now (seriously Alamo, you've ruined my life), so after it was out we were delighted to discover that Spirit Halloween had opened up in the old Sears store.

There's a lot going on in that sentence.

Anyway. Yes it is August 30th and yes you are allowed to complain about holiday creep but, for some reason this year, I am not going to. I thoroughly enjoyed my sojourn through the Spirit and am now invested in planning out my costume. I'm going to enjoy the holidays this year, dammit, because what the hell else do we have left in this godforsaken 2026? Nothing, that's what. Happy Sunday!

🎥 Mike Wallace is Here (Netflix)
This is so well done, from opening credits to the very last frame. If you don't know who Mike Wallace is, you especially need to watch it. He's a veteran journalist who literally invented the hard-hitting interview and the conversations featured are astounding. Just look at some of the people tagged in it:

🎥 Don't Say Good Luck (Netflix)
Next time you need a good cry, queue this up. And I don't mean just a gentle tear or two. You will sob at the end. But it will feel good. I'm annoyed that Adam Sandler keeps producing movies I like but I guess it's time to make peace with that. Also, his daughter is a hell of an actress.

📖 Julia
This is an interesting one — a follow-on to 1984 but with a female protagonist. It's impressive how well the author expanded the original world. It borders on too-gross at times but the rest of the story is so good, I stuck with it.

Obviously I am bereft about Dolly and Tim and felt my age extra-hard this week. If you haven't already, schedule some watchings of Clue and 9 to 5. RIP you beautiful divas.

xoxo,
Carla
