True story

Happy Sunday, friends. The Sharp Skirts launch mixer yesterday was a smashing success. Lookit:

And that wasn't everybody! There was such great energy in the room; it was gratifying to behold. Everybody's haranguing us to gather amidst the toxic cloud of doom surrounding us, and yesterday was proof of that. We fueled each other. I'm so damn excited for the road ahead.

But you came here for recs, didn't you? Fine, I shall rec.

28 Years Later is getting great reviews, but before you see that, check out this zombie movie that should be much better known. A guy wakes up in a Paris apartment the morning after a party to find that the world has been invaded by zombies. Beyond the usual bloody fun, it's an interesting exploration of loneliness as he navigates the new reality by himself.

This is an incredible story! And completely, stunningly, true. A Jewish boy in Poland pretends to be German after he's separated from his family and ends up joining the Hitler Youth. I was engrossed from minute one.

No I do not know why it took me so long to read this book but wow is it fantastic. And another (mostly) true story, based on the death of Shakespeare's 11-year-old son. The author spins up an entire world with rich, intriguing characters around that one small fact. This was one of those books I didn't want to end, and have found myself thinking about them days later.

Last but not least, here is an excellent representation of how I'm feeling about global developments:

Netanyahu has spent the better part of two decades trying to strong arm the United States into an unprovoked war against Iran and finally found a president stupid enough to do it for him. Unbelievable.
