Roll them bones

I haven't written you in a minute because my latest adventure involved breaking my ankle in two places while walking down a sidewalk in clogs last Saturday night. I clearly remember thinking, "I'm falling. Wait, I'm still falling. When am I going to stop falling? Is this ever going to end?" It ended almost in the roadway, and my friends and a random passerby jumped into the fray to prevent me from becoming a traffic fatality. So now I sit with a giant purple cast on my right leg - yes the one you need to drive! - as I bounce between sobbing depression, mind-numbing boredom, and petty anger.

If you haven't lately, please take a moment to thank the universe for the ability to walk with two feet. I will never take that for granted again. I am grateful for a job that lets me work from my air-conditioned home, the technology that enables wifi and streaming media, and friends who drop by with food and drink and love. This will all be over in 7 weeks (dear god please). Maybe I'll finally start writing the Great American Novel. It can always be worse. But if you wanted to send me some funny jokes or something, I would not object.

Here are some of the 10,000 things I've watched this week.

🏅 The Olympics (Peacock)
Its coverage of the Winter Olympics 2 years ago was a giant mess that many people were angry they paid for. Boy, did they clean up nice. NBC/Peacock has knocked this one out of the park, pulling off feats of technological wizardry on an hourly basis. The 2024 Paris Olympics consists of 45 events, which have 329 medal competitions. NBC is at every single one, with knowledgeable commentators and every conceivable camera angle. They're all available to watch on Peacock, categorized by sport, and each one also has key highlights in case you just want the top moments. They also have the slick-as-hell multi-view, which lets you watch 4 events at once, hone in one for a while, then go back to the four-view. It's just damn cool! I love the Olympics! I haven't left the house in 5 days!

📺 The Traitors UK (Peacock)
I'm getting my money's worth, ok? If you're in the market for a bingeable, intrigue-filled reality show, look no further than The Traitors. There are American versions hosted by Alan Cumming but I was told to watch the UK version first. Set in a Scottish castle, 22 strangers work to identify the traitors among them, while the traitors work to pick 'the faithful' off, one by one. The music is cheesy as hell, and there are more dramatic pauses than stars in the sky, but as a friend said, this is "the only show that kept us up till 1am because we couldn't stop watching."

📺 Nathan for You: Finding Frances (Max)
The New York Times named this one of the most memorable TV moments of 2017, and it's easy to see why. This show was clearly an inspiration for How To with John Wilson, so that should give you a hint as to the level of weirdness involved. It's a documentary, about Nathan Fielder helping an old man reconnect with a long-lost love. But it goes off into some very interesting places. I don't want to ruin it, so will leave it at that.

I hope the week ahead treats you well and that all your bones remain intact. xoxo
