Letter from yesterday
I'm headed to Vegas today but when you read this it will be the future and I'll have been there for 2 days. I wonder what I've been doing. Am I newly rich or sustainably broke? Have I married someone? I did that the last time I was in Vegas so who's to say it's not a pattern? (And yes, that's a true story. On our move back from California, we met friends in Vegas and made a snap decision to get married. We had two great kids together so I guess you can call that a success.) Anyway hello from the past. I hope flying cars have finally arrived.
🎥 Leave No Trace (Starz, Kanopy)
Underrated gem alert! This is worth seeking out or renting. Starring the enchanting Thomasin McKenzie (I watched 2 movies with her this week), it's the story of a father and teenage daughter living off the grid in the Oregon woods. I would love to know how they prepared for these roles, because the quiet comfort between them is palpable—you have no doubt of their deep love for each other. They're of course discovered by authorities and forced to deal with the real world. You will cry at the end. I thought about these two for days after.
🎥 Eileen (Hulu)
And then there's Eileen. You will not cry at the end of this. Anne Hathaway stars alongside Thomasin and they're both phenomenal in very different roles, which is why I'm recommending it. The story is pretty wacky. You think you know where it's going and then... I'll just say that my entire review on Letterboxd was, "Well that took a turn."
📖 60 Songs That Explain the 90s
I just started this but am already delighted. It's a perfect plane read, with the added bonus that it's funny, so I can be that weird middle-aged woman giggling to herself (my life goal). I'm a music nerd and the 90s were a golden age for me, so I might as well have written this. Shit, maybe I should.
I hope your weekend has been wonderful and I hope mine has too.
xoxo
