I just like the word twee

In this week's episode of The Broken Ankle, I paid a visit to the office for 3 hours and went to the movies. I was elated to get out of the house both times, if only slightly nervous that I was going to bite it on my knee scooter and render some other body part unusable. The movie was M. Night Shyamalan's latest, Trap, and it was decidedly not good, and a blatant vehicle for his daughter. Maybe time to rest on your laurels, M. Night?

I am stingy with my 5-star ratings on Letterboxd, but I didn't hesitate on this one. It's technically a vampire movie - and a pretty bloody one, too - but more so a meditation on friendship, love, and family and what it means to be connected to someone. It was one of those movies that I let the credits roll at the end as I stared into space. Just damn beautiful, in all senses.

I'm not entirely sure why I read Matthew Perry's memoir. We all know how it ends, which makes the whole thing extra-super sad, and as far as celebrity memoirs go, there isn't much good gossip to keep you moving. It's just a repetitive slog through demons he never fully explores and, not to speak ill of the dead, but it seems like he was kind of a dick? If you want to know how many oxys he was taking in a day, give it a read.

šŸŽ„ The Map of Tiny Perfect Things (Prime)
I watched this because I love Kathryn Newton (Lisa Frankenstein, Big Little Lies), and found it to be a sweet, tidy little rom-com. It's like Palm Springs but twee. If you want something on in the background while you noodle on your phone, this is it.

This week's goals: go to the office maybe even twice, see another movie, hear from the orthopedist at check-in that my bones are magical and will be healed in 2 weeks. It could happen!

A lot of people have Covid right now so if you're one of them, I'm sending you healing vibes. This summer shall pass...

xoxo,
Carla
