Fun for the end times
Did you know that The Drudge Report is still around? It very much is and has not changed an iota since it launched in 1995. A single white page filled with panicky news links, it can surprisingly be a good alternative news source when you tire of the same three headlines running through all the major news sites. Today, for instance, I learned that a man was set on fire in Times Square this morning, Trump tripped on some stairs (HA HA), and "Spring Break brawl erupts in Fort Lauderdale as students rush to place crypto bets". I don't really need to know the details on that last one; just the fact that crypto bros are fighting each other is enough for me. It's the National Enquirer of the internet, and in these end times of civilization I am here for it.
🎥 Mickey 17 (in theaters)
March is kind of an awful time for movies, with everyone recovering from Oscar season and, I don't know, enjoying sunshine or something. So I've encountered few people who have even heard of this one and that is a damn shame. Directed by Bong Joon Ho, the director of Parasite, it is delightfully funny, gross, heartbreaking, and thrilling. It hits all the notes! The cast is so good—who knew Robert Pattinson was such a great actor? You will enjoy yourself watching this.
📖 Nuclear War: A Scenario
Speaking of end times, do you find yourself wondering what happens to the human body in a nuclear strike zone? Are you eager to learn the order of succession past the Speaker of the House? Ever wished that you knew the names of every nuclear weapon in the US arsenal? Do I have a book for you! Exhaustively researched, this book imagines what would happen if North Korea fired one nuclear missile at us. Spoiler: very bad things!
📺 The Traitors UK (Peacock)
Now that the recent American version of this show has wrapped, going back to the UK version's latest season is like stepping into a warm bath. You don't realize how obnoxious American reality stars are until you meet the completely normal folk from across the pond. This version is SO much better, even without Alan Cumming in the picture. And all the episodes are there, so you can binge it.
Also P.S., if you haven't seen Lady Gaga's performances from last week's SNL, they're so very good. Happy Spring Break, friends.
xoxo,
Carla
