Brain for sale

Hi hi. I didn't write you last weekend because I was laid off from my job and subsequently wandering around my house in a daze, staring at walls. It's all FINE, really it is. I had been there 6 years - longest I've been at a job actually - and things were not what they used to be; time to move on to greener pastures and all that. I have a lot of irons in the fire to pull out and shape into swords (or something similarly war-like and ambitious). I love the mysterious thrill of change. What lies around the next corner? Will this be when I finally become the world-renowned voice of a generation? Or will I end up living in my car? Life is a cabaret!

For those who want to do me a solid, I've put some words below the recs that you can share and pass on. Thank you!

🎥 The Virgin Spring (Criterion and Kanopy)
Oh come on, you knew this was coming—the more time I have on my hands, the weirder the movies get. And when the going gets tough, the tough break out the Bergman. This is surprisingly engrossing and accessible for a movie set in 14th-century Sweden. It's a haunting drama about a devout Christian family whose daughter is murdered on her way to church. You know, a lighthearted romp! Fun fact: this movie was the inspiration for the horror classic The Last House on the Left.

📖 Freedom
A lyrical, almost poetic journey through Pennsylvania on foot, interspersed with musings on how generations before us found and defined 'freedom.' Sebastian Junger is one of my all-time favorite writers and he does not disappoint with this one. I learned a lot and enjoyed myself doing so. However. This was written in 2021 and his exalting of American democracy is pretty damn painful to read right now. It's enlightening and heartbreaking.

Me!
Yeah that's right. My third recommendation is myself. I have a second child starting college in August and a taste for nice whiskey, so mama needs some money. That link above is to my personal website, listing all the fabulous things I can do. I'm smart, I work fast, and can take any wad of words and turn them into magic. Hit me up!

To feed my soul, I'm also relaunching my old gig Sharp Skirts, focused on helping women find their voice. The website is under construction so you can follow the page on LinkedIn for updates. That's going to be a fun one.

Last but not least, I'm looking for full-time roles as Head of Content, Communications, or Marketing. My LinkedIn profile is here.

I hugely appreciate you keeping me in mind, passing my info around, and recommending me to people you like. In all seriousness, I can't wait to see what's next.

xoxo,
Carla
